2018 February – Birthday Cuddles, Woodland, Lunch

Birthday Cuddles

This is a picture of me tolerating a cuddle from Mum.

Apparently it is her birthday or something.  S’pose it’s only once a year.  At least mine is.  Unless I am being short-changed of course.  Humans can be a bit sneaky sometimes.

Anyway Mum seems quite cheerful although she also keeps saying, it’s only a number and it’s how you feel that’s important.  In dog years she’d be pre-historically ancient by now, so actually she’s probably right, she seems to be doing OK all things considered.  I expect I help to keep her young at heart.

I have decided I will let her have her day, which I hope you’ll agree is pretty generous of me.

However, tomorrow I am expecting her to resume her duties by focussing on me.

Woodland

This is a picture of me taking the offspring out for a walk in the woods.

Everyone is here because of Mum’s birthday which is nice actually.

I always get more treats because none of them tell each other that they’ve already given me treats.

I’m not complaining.  In fact, I’ll let you into a secret, I actually got two breakfasts today.

Maybe I’ll get two dinners.  Paws crossed.

Lunch

Mum went out for lunch today.

She didn’t take me with her which is just rude really.  Mum said she wasn’t sure the restaurant would be able to cope with me or vice versa.  Well, we will never know now, will we?

As usual I will have to keep a very strict eye on her again.  It is phenomenally tiring.

Saffron’s recommendations this month:

Music: Marc Bolan and T-Rex

Pretty much the man who single handedly kick-started  Glam Rock in the early 70’s, Marc caused controversy appearing on Top of the Pops with glitter on his face.  Yes, everyone was really that tightly wound back in the day!

Ride a White Swan

Metal Guru

Bang a Gong (Get It on)

Children of the Revolution

I love to Boogie

20th Century Boy

Reading:

‘Discourses and Selected Writings’ by Epictetus, published by Penguin Classics

A greek stoic and freed slave, Epictetus ran a school of philosophy in the early 2nd Century AD.  A personal and practical guide to the ethics of Stoicism and moral self improvement plus how to embrace our fate and live in harmony with the gods and with nature.

Not nearly as patronising as it sounds. Might make you take a fresh look at what you actually value (and want) out of life. Maybe give it a look eh?

Plus Robert Dobbin provides an intro on the relevance of stoicism in the modern day.

Films:

Wall Street or The Wolf of Wall Street

Take either film and contrast it with the writings of Epictetus.  Go on, you know you want to.
