2024 July – Sun Bear, Early Morning Swims, Doctorate, Airfield Recce, Stool Pigeon, Fed Up Face, JACS

Sun Bear

Just a picture of little ol’ me dozing in the sun.

It’s lovely.

Warm, mnnnn…

Early morning swims

Mum has been making the most of the hot weather (few and far between this year it seems) and getting up early and dipping in the river.

It has been just lovely according to Mum – lots of wildlife up and about but hardly any humans.

Best time of day.

Kingfishers have been whizzing around feeding their brood.

Doctorate

Offspring #4 has obtained her PhD so everyone went out to London to celebrate.

I wasn’t invited.

You won’t be surprised to hear that.

I expect I will sulk with Mum for a few days just to make my point.

Anyway, congratulations are deffo in order – a whole heap of very hard work.

Airfield Recce

Mum has been visiting airfields with a friend for funsy. Fully functioning ones like Connington, Denham, Turweston, Staughton plus a few run-down and pretty much disused sites.  Like the one above.

Shame really.

The disused and run down bit that is.

Although some are really in pretty good nick all things considered – things like the complete total and utter lack of funding or support from successive governments over decades.

Stool Pigeon

This is a picture of me studiously ignoring some pigeons.

I am doing very well.

They are extremely annoying.

I will get fed up in a bit and chase them out of my garden.

Honestly, they take liberties.

There’s never a sparrowhawk around when you need one is there?

Fed Up Face

This is me being fed up.  Look at my face.

Except I am not actually fed up.

I am, in fact, waiting to be fed.

I am always waiting to be fed.

Mum can be quite careless and inconsiderate about how often I am fed.

Which, in my opinion, is not nearly often enough.

JACS

Mum and her favourite new plaything.

And her favourite old plaything.

Saffron’s recommendations this month:

Music:

The soundtrack from The Full Monty (see films below).  What a great selection.  You really can’t go wrong, can you?  Take your pick from:

  • You Sexy Thing – Hot Chocolate
  • Moving on Up – M People
  • Make Me Smile – Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel
  • We are Family – Sister Sledge
  • Flashdance – Irene Cara
  • Hot Stuff – Donna Summer (dole queue – yessss)
  • Zodiac – David Lindup
  • You Can Leave Your Hat On – Tom Jones

Reading:

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith and published by Sphere Books.   It is the fourth novel in the Cormoran Strike series, written by JK Rowling and published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Mum likes these a lot. Well written. You won’t be disappointed.  The other books are The Cuckoo’s Calling, Silkworm & Career of Evil.  They are written chronologically so, go on, give them a go. Potentially 5 more stories to come.

Film:

The Full Monty is a 1997 British Comedy starring Robert Carlyle (Gaz). The film is set in Sheffield during the 1990s, and tells the story of six unemployed men, four of them former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act (à la Chippendales) in order to make some money and for the main character, Gaz, to be able to see his son.   Despite being a comedy, the film also touches on serious subjects such as unemployment, father’s rights, depression, body image, homosexuality and suicide.

It’s a brilliant film. Quiet desperation and extremely funny all at the same time.

Sadly, not out of date.
