CRP-5

What is this devilment?

A CRP-5 includes all necessary functions for the commercial and airline transport pilot examinations. Circular slide rule side with clear durable cursor. For calculation and conversion of temperature, time, distance, volume, altitude, speed, weight, fuel, endurance, multiplication and division, 1 in 60 rule, compressibility correction etc. Coloured scales and lettering enhance operation and clarity.   For calculation of heading and groundspeed, wind velocity, head and crosswind components etc.  Wind triangle side incorporating sliding scale with speed range of 40-1000 and measuring scales on outside edges of 1:500,000 NM, 1:250,000 NM, Inches and mm. Clear rotating disc for lead pencil plotting.

Got it??

Good.

You’re doing better than Mum then. Mum’s pilot friend has been helping to explain how it works.  Good luck to him is all I can say.  Also, he lent Mum his one and she broke it and had a minor meltdown but thankfully Pooleys to the rescue and they sent out some free screws to put it back together again.  Go Pooleys – Mum was actually super impressed with their lifetime guarantee service – they deffo walk the talk!

Mum has also now finished all but one of the exams – there has been a lot of huffing and puffing and plenty of language and lots of exam practise.  Her pilot friend has all the patience.  He actually seems to understand this stuff.   Easy PPL exam practise also helped massively https://www.easypplgroundschool.com/

I gave up and went and sat in the next room.

I know my limits and Mum in exam mode is one of them.

Happy 100th Birthday

Aunty Aileen is 100 years old!! Woo woo!

The care home threw a party for her and lots of people rocked up – it was a lovely day.    Aileen is crazy fit and healthy.  Mum reckons she will outlive us all. She might well do that.

Aileen reckons the key to a long and happy life is to never get married and never have children or pets.

Hahaha.   Mum is absolutely stuffed then.

Happy 30th Birthday

A month of milestone birthdays and offspring#3 decided to celebrate by throwing herself out of a perfectly serviceable plane.

Looking cool huh?

That’s the plane in the background.

….then a more civilised trip to Paris with her sisters and a little retail therapy.

Making a Pigs Ear of it

This is a picture of fabulous me.  I have just been given a pigs ear as a treat.   I do love a pigs ear.  I don’t often get these.

Josh and Maria are looking after me while Mum is off gallivanting again.

I am having a lovely time and being very well looked after but don’t tell them that.  Always good to keep people on their toes isn’t it?  Treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen.  That’s my motto.   It usually doesn’t work very well.   People can see right through me and I’m not built to be mean for any longer than a few seconds of a quizzical stare, as you can see.  The back end of me is wagging but you can’t see it in this photo.

Shhhh, don’t tell anyone. It’s our little secret.

Australia

This is me having a little upside-down time. I am trying to imagine what it would be like in Australia. Australia is upside down apparently.  I’m not sure how they ever get anything done there.  It must be quite tricky if all you can see is the ceiling.

As you can see, Teddy is also joining me in Australia. We are really getting into this.

I don’t think I’ll be moving there any time soon though.

Bootiful

Mum has been swimming again. Now the weather is (relatively) hot she goes a lot.

She says it is calming and relaxing.

I can see a few stinging nettles though. Can you?  That might be slightly less calming if you have to fight your way through those to get into the water.

I think I will give it a miss if it’s all the same to you.

L’il ol’ Me

Just a pic of gorgeous me.

Thank you, it’s an absolute pleasure.

Ron Swanson

And this is Ron.  From Parks and Recreation.  Just the funniest thing.

Any of you got Netflix? Go watch it. Don’t argue. You won’t regret it.

Mum loves it. You will too. (See Film below)

Saffron’s recommendations this month:

Music:

We’re going for a little INXS.  Can’t believe we haven’t featured these before. What was Mum thinking??

Before lead vocals Michael Hutchence’s traumatic suicide in 1997, and the multiplying tragedies and indignities that followed – the reality program in search of a replacement singer; The Seven Network Miniseries; the death of former manager Chris Murphy; guitarist Tim Farriss’s severed finger; before all of that, INXS were one thing above all else: a brilliant singles band with a sh*t-hot frontman.

You won’t be disappointed. Promise.

Reading:

The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix published by Hodder and Stoughton

From the book…..

I am the monster. I am the shield. I am the knife in the dark.

Ranka is tired of death. All she wants now is to be left alone, living out her days in Witchik’s wild north with the coven that raised her, attempting to forget the horrors of her past. But when she is named Bloodwinn, the next treaty bride to the human kingdom of Isodal, her coven sends her south with a single directive: kill him. Easy enough, for a blood-witch whose magic compels her to kill.

Except the prince is gentle, kind, and terrified of her. He doesn’t want to marry Ranka; he doesn’t want to be king at all. And it’s his sister – the wickedly smart, infuriatingly beautiful Princess Aramis – who seems to be the real threat.

But when witches start turning up dead, murdered by a mysterious, magical plague, Aramis makes Ranka an offer: help her develop a cure, and in return, she’ll teach Ranka to contain her deadly magic. But as the coup draws nearer and the plague spreads, Ranka is forced to question everything she thought she knew about her power, her past, and who she’s meant to fight for. Soon, she will have choose between the coven that raised her – and the prince who sees beyond the monster they shaped her to be. But as the bodies pile up, a monster may be exactly what they need.

Oooh cool.

Film:

Another TV thing – Parks and Recreation obviously! On Netflix.  Soooo funny.

Also known as Parks and Rec, it is an American political satire mockumentary television sitcom created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur. The series aired on NBC initially from April 2009 to February 2015, for 125 episodes, over seven seasons.

The writing staff incorporated current events into the episodes, such as a government shutdown in Pawnee inspired by the real-life global financial crisis of 2007/8.  Real-life political figures, including Joh McCain, Michelle Obama and Joe Biden have cameos in later episodes.

And Ron is just brilliant. Also stars Chris Pratt of Guardians of the Galaxy fame…
