2023 October – Cocktails at Dawn, Koh Samui, Hawker Centre, Postcards from Singapore, Sick with Envy, Back to Abnormal, Wild Boar, Shark, Away Landing
Cocktails at Dawn
Mum and offspring #2 have gone off to Singapore.
Without me.
I know! I should be getting used to this by now shouldn’t I?
But still, it’s an absolute disgrace.
Koh Samui
Prior to this Mum went to Koh Samui to have a go at scuba diving.
It just looks like torture to me. Mum said it felt a bit like that too. She couldn’t equalize her ears further down than 10m. I have no idea what that means but it was painful apparently.
Well, serves her right for going underwater then doesn’t it? It’s not natural. If she was supposed to go underwater she would have been born with gills.
Hawker Centre
Back to Singy – Hawker centres sprang up in urban areas following the rapid urbanisation in the 1950s and 1960s. In many cases, they were built partly to address the problem of unhygienic food preparation by unlicensed street hawkers.
The food was great!
This was just outside the hotel Mum and offspring#2 were staying at.
Postcards from Singapore
Raffles (the original), Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Chijmes, Gardens by the Bay, Clarke Quay
Apparently they had a great time. I’m not envious at all.
And I didn’t miss Mum one bit.
You can tell from this photo can’t you?
Back to Abnormal
Well, we are back to our usual routine now. Thank goodness.
Lots of sniffy things to sniff.
And horse poo to eat.
Phew….
Wild Boar
This is my new menu.
Fancy huh? I am lovin’ my raw feed. I have to keep a watchful eye on Mum because she is carnivore too and I reckon she might be tempted.
If there was an apocalypse, I can see us fighting over MY food. I would win obviously.
My needs come first in any case. Just so we are quite clear on that.
Shark
Mum has broken her vacuum cleaner and got a new one.
The shark is pretty effective. That is a lot of me in there. Terrifying how useless the last vacuum was eh??
By any measure I should be bald. But I’m not. As you can see.
The vacuuming went on for ages so I am now having a well-deserved kip.
Away Landing
Mum also flew to Leicester – it was her first away landing. She and Alex (flight instructor) had coffee and cake. Very civilised apparently.
She has done her final exam now too.
And she passed. It’s a miracle. Mum just needs to learn how to actually fly now hahaha.
Saffron’s recommendations this month:
Music:
We are going all aero this month – here is a list of cross-country flying tracks for the road air. Mum says she hasn’t time to listen to anything – but hey, what about her passengers? Mum is so selfish sometimes.
- Leaving on a Jet Plane – John Denver
- Learning to Fly – Pink Floyd
- Jet Airliner – Steve Miller Band
- Come Fly with Me – Frank Sinatra
- Aces High – Iron Maiden
- Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins (Top Gun)
- Gonna Fly Now – Tim Conti (theme from Rocky)
- Fly Away – Lenny Kravitz
- Five Miles Out – Mike Oldfield (he was caught in a storm over Spain piloting a Piper Navajo)
- Flying Down to Rio – Fred Astaire
- Aeroplane – Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Reading:
This past month or two, a lot of reading has been centred around the Air Pilots Manuals by Pooleys. There are 7 of them – Flying Training, Air Law and Meteorology, Navigation, Aeroplane Technical, Radio Navigation & Instrument Flying, Human Performance & Operational Procedures, Communications.
Mum has been engrossed.
I have been bored.
But hey, Mum passed everything.
Film:
Amsterdam is a 2022 mystery comedy thriller film produced, written, and directed by David Russell. It stars Christian Balle, Margot Robie and John Washington. Also got Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant and Zoe Saldana and Taylor Swift in there. So a great cast. The story is based on the Business Plot of a 1933 political conspiracy in the United States, and follows three friends—a doctor, a nurse, and a lawyer—who reunite and seek to uncover the act following the mysterious murder of a retired U.S. general.
It’s actually a pretty cool film. And possibly not a conspiracy theory! See what you reckon…..
