2023 May – Siesta, Norfolk, Kobe and Penny, Carriages, Blue is the Colour, Cow Parsley, A Rose by Any Other Name

Siesta

It is a glorious day and this is the best way to spend some time in the sun.

Can you blame me?

Mum has gone away (again) and left me. She is off having fun with her swim pals somewhere in East Anglia and as per usual has left me here.

I am terribly upset but trying hard not to show it.  I am being looked after of course and fed and watered.

But still.

Norfolk

This is what Mum and her swim buddies got up to.

I hope she had fun.

Does that sound sincere?

Kobe and Penny

Here is Kobe looking very attentive – I expect he will get a treat in a bit.

And this is Penny, sunning herself.

Living her best park life.

Carriages

Mum and her friends have gone off again to indulge.  This time it is afternoon tea at Carriages.

I have not been invited.

I am not especially partial to cucumber sandwiches but I reckon I’d have given the ham and tuna ones a jolly good go.  Maybe also the scones ….

Blue is the Colour

Mum loves this blue shrubby tree thing in the neighbours garden.

It is covered in bees – the whole tree hums.  And you know how obsessed Mum can be about bees, don’t you?

Cow Parsley

Finally, back to gorgeous me.

I am stalking confidently through some cow parsley.  The weather has been great and we have gone for some long walks in the sunshine.

And back in Brampton woods. They’ve cleared loads of trees and shrubby stuff away from the main walks so everywhere is a lot more open now.

This means I can see a lot further and I notice other dogs much more easily.  Mum isn’t sure this is a good thing as I can get quite excited and a little bit barky when I see other dogs.  Even if they are a very long way into the distance.

You can never be too careful, that’s all I am saying.

And you never know with other dogs.

They can be quite unpredictable.

Unlike me.

I am extremely predictable. I will kick off every time I see a dog.  I value consistency.

Mum would like me to be a little less consistent, but I am ignoring her.

A Rose by Any Other Name

Mum has grown some roses and here they are.

They are quite smelly.  Mum says it’s nice but frankly, it’s not the same as 2-day old fox poo.

She is stupidly proud of herself but roses are pretty much indestructible according to Monty, so I suspect not much skill required tbh.    I’m not that interested in roses but it keeps Mum happy, so I will make the effort and tolerate and support her little hobbies.

Do I deserve a treat for that?

Yes, I think so.

Saffron’s recommendations this month:

Music:

Blur are an English rock band formed in 1988. Their debut album, Leisure (1991), incorporated the sounds of Madchester and shoegaze. Following a stylistic change influenced by English groups such as The Kinks, The Beatles and XTC,  Blur released the albums Modern Life is Rubbish (1993), Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995). As a result, the band helped to popularise the Britpop genre and achieved mass popularity in the UK, aided by a widely publicised chart battle with rival band Oasis in 1995 dubbed “The Battle of Britpop”.

But you know all this don’t you..?? So, just enjoy the songs.   Mum loves Parklife – of course she does, know what I mean….

Reading:

This month we’re going for Normal Weird written by Nemetra X1369 published by Sci and Geo Creative.     Humanity at the end of the 22nd century is evolving into something else. Who is normal and who is weird? What if it is the other way around? What if the irreversible change is already here?

Sapiens meets Black Mirror.  Intrigued??  Give it a go!!

Mum loves this sort of stuff of course. What category do you reckon she falls into? You get one guess. Yep.

Film:   Army of Thieves is a 2021 heist comedy film. A prequel to Army of the Dead (2021), it is the second instalment in the Army of the Dead franchise. It was digitally released on October 29, 2021, on Netflix.  Acting pretty good, however the plot received lukewarm reviews from critics. It’s an easy watch if you fancy something not too demanding at the end of a busy week. Mum quite enjoyed it, but you know what she’s like.
