2023 January – New Year’s Day Swimbles, Penny for your Thoughts, Dog Menu, Can You Have Cake? Sunset Walks, Public Transport, Ab Crunches, To Boldly Go, Enterprise
January 2023
“You know the greatest danger facing us is ourselves, an irrational fear of the unknown. But there’s no such thing as the unknown — only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood.”
Captain James T Kirk.
New Year’s Day swimbles
Yep. Bonkers. End of.
Penny for your thoughts …
This is a picture of Penny.
She is in charge of offspring #3.
I think we can all tell how difficult that is from the expression on her face.
Everyone sympathises, Penny.
You can do it.
Be strong.
We’re right behind you.
Yep, don’t blame you at all.
Dog Menu
This is a picture of how every establishment should be treating extra special customers.
Just sayin’.
Obvs I didn’t get an invite. Mum reckons it would have been all too, too much for me. The journey in to London on the train would have been too much for starters.
Well, we will never know, will we?
I may be sulking ever so slightly.
I might have been given some extra treats as a compensation, but still …..
These are pictures of what Mum and offspring did celebrating offspring #4 birthday (without me).
Natural History Museum – it was rammed!
Some cars they passed on the way to the NHM ….
Shiny, shiny, shiny
Can you have cake?
Mum has joined the local One Leisure gym.
That entitles her to cake apparently but since she’s on ‘Carnivore’ that won’t be happening any time soon.
Do you think I might have her cake instead?
Nope, not a chance.
She is so selfish sometimes.
Sunset walks
These are pictures of the medieval moat place at sunset – one with and one without frost.
Either is fine for me.
The sunsets have been beautiful lately. Well, so Mum says.
I am really rather more interested in sniffing out sniffy things if I’m honest.
Public Transport
Here is a picture of the intrepid duo of Kobe and Penny on London’s public transport system.
You wouldn’t catch me on there in a month of Sundays.
Not a hope.
Mum agrees.
Ab Crunches
Here is a picture of me helping Mum do her stretches after she’s been to the gym.
Mum has pointed out that being trampled all over isn’t exactly helpful, as it happens.
However, let’s face it, she barely knows what she’s doing at the gym so she’s probably wrong about this too. I am fine by the way, so that makes everything ok in my book.
And this is a picture of me doing some ab crunches.
I am quite good at it if I say so myself.
Better than Mum anyhow.
To Boldly Go
Here are some pictures of the lovely me striding out into the New Year. I am going boldly, as you can see. Also this approach is marginally more grammatically correct – apparently. No split infinitives here I’ll have you know (pedant, Saffron 😊).
As you have all probably grasped by now, Mum fancies herself as a bit of a ‘trekkie’ so she has made me put in the (original) Star Trek opener in full.
As it is New Year I will indulge her.
Just this once you understand – and only because I am in a good mood.
Space, the final frontier
These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise
Her five-year mission
To explore strange new worlds
To seek out new life
And new civilizations
To boldly go where no man has gone before
Ok – a bit of geeks-ville now….
A version of this was first used in the Star Trek Pilot programme ‘Broken Bow’ and attributed to the inventor of Warp Drive, Dr Zefram Cochrane in his speech at the dedication of the facility devoted to designing the first engine, which had the capability of Warp speed 5 and which made interstellar exploration possible for humans. Set in 2119 and thirty-two years before the 2151 launch of the first vessel powered by such an engine – Enterprise (NX-01).
On this site, a powerful engine will be built. An engine that will someday help us to travel a hundred times faster than we can today. Imagine it – thousands of inhabited planets at our fingertips… and we’ll be able to explore those strange new worlds, and seek out new life and new civilizations. This engine will let us go boldly… where no man has gone before.
The second pilot episode became known as “Where No Man Has Gone Before“, The phrase itself was subsequently worked into the show’s opening narration. The final introductory sequence was devised in August 1966, after several episodes had been filmed, and shortly before the series was due to debut.
It is the result of the combined input of several people, including Star Trek creator Gene Rodenberry who penned this original version:
This is the adventure of the United Space Ship Enterprise. Assigned a five-year galaxy patrol, the bold crew of the giant starship explores the excitement of strange new worlds, uncharted civilizations, and exotic people. These are its voyages and its adventures.
And take a peek at this – interesting!
…and (no surprise really) Elon Musk is on this already btw ……
Try this – all about hyper drive and hyperspace…..
Woo woo – excitement!! 😊
Enterprise
The original NX-01
The iconic NCC-1701
The F class … just wow…
Ok, calm down Mum.
Saffron’s recommendations this month:
Music:
Yep – just dive in and listen to the Star Trek Mega Suite – tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.
Then go for the absolutely mind blowing 2009 theme by Michael Giacchino – a musical masterpiece – goosebumps (and save the planet) time ……
And if that isn’t good enough (whaaaaa?) then try this – go on, you know you want to…..
Reading:
Pretty much anything by Graham Hancock this month (alongside the must watch Netflix series Ancient Apocalypse – er… which is eye opening to say the least).
Try any or all of:
- The Divine Spark
- Fingerprints of the Gods
- Magicians of the Gods
- Supernatural
- America Before
Mnnn…. Have we got our own human history completely and utterly wrong up to now??? Reckon that might very well be a very distinct probability. And who has controlled the narrative up to now and for what reason?? Questions, questions, questions…
Also worth taking a gander at some of the interviews on YouTube with Graham Hancock. Outside the constraints of the Netflix editorial team, there is some mind expanding stuff being discussed – in my opinion anyhow. Mebbe try it and see if you agree?
Film
Has to be the Star Trek franchise doesn’t it? Mum is slightly horrified at herself for not including these films until now. I’m not surprised at all. She is easily distracted.
There have been more films than she’d realised. Might have to hunker down and watch these again….
1979 – Star Trek: The Motion Picture
1982 – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
1984 – Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
1986 – Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
1989 – Star Trek V: the Final Frontier
1991- Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
1994 – Star Trek Generations
1996 – Star Trek First Contact
1998 – Star Trek Insurrection
2002 Star Trek Nemesis
Then the (fabulous) re-boot series with Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock and based on the Kelvin timeline (aka an alternative Universe) compared to the Prime timeline in the original series.
2009 – Star Trek
2013 – Star Trek: Into Darkness
2016 – Star Trek: Beyond
Tba – Star Trek 4 – Mum can’t wait hahaha……..
