2021 September – Harvest, Sunflowers, Spare Dogs, Zambezi
Harvest
This is a picture of me out in the fields, post harvest.
Obvs it was the farmer who did the actual harvest, not me.
Fun Fact: The word ‘harvest’ is from the Old English ‘hærfest’, meaning autumn.
And here is Mum getting all excited over a rainbow. I’m not really that excited as you can tell.
Sunflowers
And here is some more harvesting, this time from home. Mum has grown sunflowers (as you can see). They’re quite impressive actually, considering who grew them.
These are the spare sunflowers.
Spare Dogs
This is offspring #4 looking after another doggo. They seem worn out.
I notice that they are allowed on the settee.
I’m not allowed on the settee.
I feel a small mutiny might be in order.
And here is offspring #2 and boyfriend’s doggo, Kobe.
Kobe has been to a dog show and has won a prize for best trick.
Mum says it would be a complete nightmare if I went to a dog show.
She reckons my trick would be to cause utter chaos. I’m not sure that’s a trick really. Tricks require practise and I reckon I could cause chaos without any rehearsal whatsoever.
Zambezi
This is a picture of a bridge over the Zambezi.
Mum has put this in here because offspring #2 bungee-jumped off a similar bridge when she was in Zambia a few years ago. As you do. It was videoed and tbh any health and safety aspects seemed slightly (if not entirely) absent. There are crocs in the Zambezi so it could have been a bit interesting and quite possibly terminal.
Mum and her brother lived in Zambia for a while when they were little. They were there when Zambia got its independence and Mum has one of the independence flags somewhere. Apparently it was a nice lifestyle and a bit of a shock to come back to the cold and wet UK.
Being a Spanish dog myself, I know the feeling.
Saffron’s recommendations this month:
Music: Red Hot Chilli Peppers (RHCP) founded in the 80’s in LA and apparently described variously as alt rock, funk, punk rock, hard rock, hip-hop and psychedelic rock. Er…blimey… :) Regardless, some great tracks. Maybe try these.
Snow (Hey Oh)
Under the Bridge
Road Trippin’
Higher Ground
Scar Tissue
Give it Away
Reading: The Oversight by Charlie Fletcher, published by orbit books. The first of a trilogy (next are The Paradox and The Remnant). Dark deeds & dark magic. The Oversight of London is there to prevent the natural and the supernatural worlds from preying on each other. Described as a dark and glinting book. Like lots.
Film: Léon: The Professional, starring Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman. Described as graphically violent and visually stylish with (oddly) a 12 year old girl at the centre of the plot about a hitman.
This is one of Mum’s favourites. It’s a cult classic. See what you think.
