2021 February – Birthday Outing, Baby Yoda, Ant and Dec, Paul
Birthday Outing
This is a picture of me exploring a likely looking lair.
I am actually taking Mum out on her birthday walk. It is quite chilly but she needs taking out every day otherwise she can get a bit tetchy and wound up. You know what humans can be like if they don’t get their exercise.
There wasn’t anything in the lair by the way.
Or at least nothing that I could reach.
This is a picture of me having a well deserved rest after the walk.
I am snuggled right into my bed because the heating has gone off. Mum says it isn’t working properly.
It is quite cold actually.
I expect my friend Jamie will be round in a while to fix it. Jamie likes me.
So I may get some treats.
A day in the life of Baby Yoda
This was sent by offspring #3 but Mum says it more or less applies to her as well.
It kinda looks like Mum as well – hahaha… :)
Ant and Dec
Offspring #2 sent this to Mum to add to her strange collection of vegetation. Mum has called them Ant Air and Dec Plant.
It will be a miracle if they are alive next birthday.
Paul
…and Paul the Christmas Octopus is still hanging around.
It is way past Crimble. Mum seems to have no real concept of the passing of time or any sense of seasonality. She just says he is fun and sparkly and what’s not to like?
I reckon it is more likely that she can’t be bothered to wrestle him back into the attic, if I’m honest. He’s quite an awkward shape.
He is also a bit sneaky and has been stealing my tennis balls. Take a close look under Paul.
Saffron’s recommendations this month:
Music: A little bit of early Chris Rea. CR has done some fab stuff over the years but the early tracks do seem to stand the test of time.
Try out the album ‘Wired to the Moon’. (Thanks to Nick for introducing this many years ago – cheers mate).
CR is a fan of historic motor racing, so we like him even more. He took part in the 1993 British Touring Car championship and seems to like his Ferraris eg: Dino, 328, 330, 250 le Mans, 156 Sharknose.
Can’t say I blame him.
He was also a pit lane mechanic for Jordan in the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix and his music is featured in the BBC documentary on Ayrton Senna.
Reading:
‘Cider with Rosie’ by Laurie Lee, published by Century
One of the most famous autobiographies of a young life in a small Cotswold village in the 1920’s. A haunting vision of a fast vanishing life as the 2 world wars had their impact. Evocative.
Film:
The Apartment – a 1960 romantic comedy with Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine and filmed in black and white.
It is considered to be one of the greatest films ever made and is only one of 3 black and white films to have won the Academy Award for best picture (the other 2 are Schindler’s List and The Artist if you’re interested).
The film won heaps of other awards despite the subject matter being controversial for its time. In 1999, Kevin Spacey dedicated his Oscar from the film American Beauty to Jack Lemmon’s performance.
