2018 August – Viewing, Bed Crisis, Doggy Day Care, Clean and Tidy

Viewing

This is a picture of me enjoying the sunshine (again!).

It’s a tough life I can tell you.

I am quite tired because Mum was running around yesterday doing cleaning stuff and tidying things (ramming stuff into cupboards out of sight mostly) because there was a viewing on the house, whatever that is.

She seemed a bit harassed to be honest.  Apparently it was a last minute thing and she had other (work) stuff to do as well.

Anyway I helped her vacuum and I sneezed quite a lot while she was spraying weird stuff on the windows to clean them.  Mum said if it wasn’t so sunny it would be less obvious that some of the windows were covered in dog slobber where I had been catching flies against the glass or  just generally barking at stuff.

Anyway we went out for a late afternoon walk which was nice.

When we got back, the house smelt of ‘other people’ which was odd but Mum didn’t seem to notice, even though I did a lot of sniffing just to try to make the point.  She’s not very security conscious I have to say.

It’s just as well I’m here really.

No-one is going to get past me.  In fact, according to the offspring, very few people would be brave enough to try.

Bed Crisis

This is a picture of me on my Saturday night bed.

At any other time it might possibly belong to an offspring.

I only have 6 beds to choose from so I have to sleep in one bed twice every week.  Mum is letting the side down if you ask me and I probably deserve better treatment than this.

Please have a word with her on my behalf if you wouldn’t mind, as every time I mention it she rolls her eyes and ignores me.

In fact it’s actually worse than that because I have just realised I only have 5 beds to choose from because the living room is shut at night now.

So you can see this is turning into quite an emergency.

Doggy Day Care

This is a picture of me with an offspring.

I occasionally offer doggy day care for the offspring when I feel they need emotional support with something.  As you can see, I’m quite good at it.

Apparently humans show emotional support for others by offering genuine encouragement, reassurance, and compassion. This might include things like verbal expressions of sympathy or physical gestures of affection.

Any verbal expressions I might make are probably not going to work that well because they are quite loud.  So, generally,  I go for a carefully placed paw.

It usually works.  Especially if Mum has trimmed my claws recently.

Big Stretch

In total agreement with Andrew Lawrence (Twitter).

If your dog stretches and you don’t say “OH BIG STRETCH” every single time, then you are a psychopath and I don’t want to know you :)

Clean and Tidy

This is a picture of me in a clean and tidy house.

To be honest, this is very unusual.  Not me, of course, but the clean and tidy bit.

Mum seems to have become slightly obsessive recently and it is disturbing my daily routine.  You can tell I am unimpressed from the expression on  my face.

All my toys have been put away and there is much more vacuuming and tidying than is probably strictly necessary, in my opinion. Certainly more than there has ever been before.  Also stuff like my dog blankets are getting washed all the time – even before I have a chance to get them slightly ‘doggy’.

Apparently it’s because the house is for sale.   Well if she carries on like this, no-one will want it because the carpets will be all worn out from vacuuming for starters.

Mum joked that could sell me with the house but to be honest that just relaxed me.  No-one in their right mind will buy it with me inside, so we’ll be stuck here forever – which suits me quite nicely thank you.

Just saying.

Saffron’s recommendations this month:

Music:  How’s about a bit of Electric Light Orchestra then (or Jeff Lynne’s ELO, if you’re in the know).  Modern rock and pop with classical overtones….defiantly anti-cool.

Living Thing

Night in the City

Mr Blue Sky (of course)

Turn to Stone

Sweet Talkin’ Woman

Wild West Hero

Don’t Bring Me Down

Reading:

River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh, published by John Murray

The second in the Ibis trilogy, traces the fate of characters on the Ibis and describes the opium trade in China, based in 19th  century Canton.  Rich.

Two major historical phenomena act as a backdrop to the plot of the Ibis trilogy (the “Great Experiment”) which involved transport of indentured labour from British controlled India to work on the sugar plantations of Mauritius, and the trade of opium between British India and China. The British played a significant part in both of these as mercantile traders who waged war and created markets of opium in the name of ‘free trade’.

(Sea of Poppies is the first book and Flood of Fire is the third)

Film:

‘Ghost Rider’ starring Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze / Ghost Rider.  Has had a pretty terrible critical response but, hey, it’s a bit of fun and we like Nic Cage.   The sequel ‘Spirit of Vengeance’ has even worse ratings – lol.  And we still watched it and enjoyed.

It’s Marvel so what’s not to like?  Pretty sure someone can pick this up and make it into something amazing.  C’mon chaps!
