2018 July – Way Too Early, Acorns, Velociraptor, Gin
Way too Early
This is a picture of me looking all cuddly and morning like.
I woke Mum up at 6.00am today because I wanted to. Mum is sighing a lot this morning – I don’t know why. It’s a nice day.
She has got me breakfast but that wasn’t why I woke her up. I wanted a chew stick really. I looked pointedly and meaningfully at the crate with the chew sticks but Mum resolutely ignored me.
So now I am going to ignore her.
Two can play at that game.
Chew Stick at last
This is a picture of me looking super focussed and amazing because I am.
And also because Mum is finally getting my chew stick. We’re back from our walk and Mum has been faffing around doing stuff and I have been sooooooo good.
She has finally remembered that I deserve a chew stick. Honestly what does a dog have to do to get noticed these days?
Mum is simply impossible.
The sooner you offspring get back, the better frankly.
Acorns
This is a picture of me enjoying the warm evening air.
It has been really hot. Mum cut the grass yesterday – well there was no grass to cut cos of the heatwave so really it was just vacuuming up rubbish from under the oak tree which had fallen off in the thunderstorm.
I helped of course.
The acorns made a lot of noise in the lawnmower and there are zillions of them this year.
Then I helped water the garden.
Then I had chicken dinner.
Then I had a quick nap.
Then I watched a bit of telly with Mum.
It’s not a bad life really.
Velociraptors
This is a picture of me in my velociraptor crate.
I don’t mind it because it means I am going somewhere.
Fun facts: Velociraptors were smart. They might have hunted in packs and working together they were fearsome predators. It would have been almost impossible to escape from them. They could get to 6ft long nose to tail and had very powerful back legs with long claws that could rip into their prey.
The name velociraptor means ‘quick plunderer’.
I reckon they had the right idea.
If I could get at the chew stick crate I’d be a quick plunderer too.
Gin
It is still hot and this is where we went today.
It was relatively cool under the trees and we didn’t meet anyone.
Mum has taken to drinking gin and tonic in the evening because it is cool, refreshing and civilised. I have taken to drinking water because it is cool, refreshing and doesn’t destroy your liver.
We’ll see who does best in the long run, shan’t we?
Saffron’s recommendations this month:
Music: It’s so hot that I reckon we could all do with a bit of Chilled Ibiza (Experience the Ultimate Sunset Mix)

Reading:
‘The Remains of the Day’ by Kazuo Ishiguro, published by faber and faber
A sad and humorous love story taking in fascism, 2 World Wars, the condition of modern man and an elegy for England at a time of acute change. (Also a film with Anthony Hopkins & Emma Thompson)
Film:
Blade Runner – a franchise based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K Dick.
Go for the 1982 version with Harrison Ford or, Mum’s favourite, the 2017 version with Ryan Gosling. Either is good really.
There is also a series of short films – Revelations, Nexus, NoWhere to Run and Blackout 2022
